Course Overview

The Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management is an innovative and challenging course of study, which encourages students to assess, evaluate and reflect upon relevant hospitality and tourism management theories and models. Students will also be given opportunities to review current practices in the international Hospitality and Tourism sector. 

The course is aimed at new graduates, as well as, hospitality and tourism professionals. The course will enhance your transferable skills such as strategic thinking, decision making, team work and leadership. A variety of assessment methods is employed on the programme including presentations and written assignments.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management has been accredited by the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) at level 7 i.e. Master degree level. The CTH is an awarding body that aims to provide the highest standard of qualifications. The CTH achieves this through robust monitoring supported by industry and the UK government regulator, Ofqual. The CTH also has partnerships with major international employers and academic institutions.

General Entry Requirements

    You will need to have at least one of the following:
    • Higher National Diploma with good grades in a related subject supplemented by work experience
    • a bachelor degree
    • DipHE/Foundation Degree in a related subject supplemented by work experience
    • appropriate work experience
    • More mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector
    • an equivalent foreign qualification
    • International students: TOEFL: 213/550/70 or IELTS: 5.5/6.0 or Cambridge Advanced Certificate: Pass or Cambridge Proficiency Certificate: Pass or equivalent or TOEFIC: 785


Management positions in hotels and resorts, country clubs, restaurants, leisure centres, travel agencies, tour operators, ski resorts and large food service companies providing management services to hospitals, universities and airlines. Specific positions available to graduates in hotels and resorts may include a rooms division manager, marketing manager, food and beverage manager and general manager. Graduates may also progress to further study, for example, on the MA, MSc or PhD.

The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality has strong links with industry, with effective relationships and high profile endorsements from organisations such as Virgin Atlantic, GTMC, Star Alliance, Marriot Hotels Caribbean, Radisson Edwardian, Sheraton Hotels, Mantis Collection, Adair Leadership, The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and many others.

Course Structure

    To qualify for the Postgraduate Diploma Level 7 in Hospitality and Tourism Management students must achieve 120 credits.

  • The above tuition fees do not include textbooks, study materials or accommodation fees.
  • 5% discount is offered to self-paying students who settle the annual tuition fees in full before the start of the course. This discount applies only when the annual fee is £4000.00+.
  • Administrative charges of £100.00 or £150.00 apply to payments by installments (please refer to payment policy for details).
  • Additional fees per module apply to re-assessments and re-take modules.
  • A graduation fee of £200.00 will be charged to all students attending the Graduation Ceremony.Students who do not wish to attend their Graduation Ceremony will be charged £30
    £200 graduation certification fee, depending on the award and additional services requested (eg apostille, international postage, notary public certification, etc). These charges are due on the final year of study.

Home Students

To be classified as a home student for the purpose of tuition fee payment:
  • you must be a British or EU national
  • you must have resided in the European Union for three years prior to the start of your course
The three year residence rule also applies to you if you have:
  • an indefinite leave to remain in the UK visa
  • a spouse/partner/dependent visa
  • any other visa which permits you to remain and work in the UK without any restrictions

Hospitality and Tourism Marketing Strategies [CTH 001]

Unit type:Core

    In modern increasingly competitive business environment there has been a shift from traditional marketing towards more varied approaches. In particular there has been a change from transactional to relationship management in marketing. The current market consumers determine whether brand and image are coherent and organisations recognise the power of brand and image as central to marketing activity. Modern brands are often built with effective PR campaigns and then maintained through a blend of marketing and PR. The impact of the Internet is having profound effect upon PR and marketing practices. Therefore, the aims of this module are to enable candidates to develop their understanding of marketing strategies and public relations tactics in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Management and Leadership across Cultures [CTH 002]

Unit type:Core

    The international nature of the hospitality and tourism industry requires managers to be aware of many different issues relating to leadership. They need the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and motivate workforces across many different cultural backgrounds, and respond to the needs and expectations of culturally diverse guests. This issue is one of great importance and very relevant to effective management of organisations in a globalised economy. Therefore the aim of this module is to enable candidates to develop a critical understanding of the range of issues associated with management and leadership across cultures.

Hospitality and Tourism Strategic Planning [CTH 003]

Unit type:Core

    The purpose of this module is to enable candidates to develop skills in internal and environmental/strategic fit analysis and strategic planning. The module also considers risk evaluation and management, as well as business ethics.

Research Methods for Hospitality and Tourism Managers [CTH 004]

Unit type:Core

    The purpose of this module is to enable candidates to develop understanding and skills in research design, research methods and research presentation.
